Richard and Rachel Harris are making the final preparations for their ambitious plan to drive all the way from one end of Africa to the other over eight months starting in May. The couple, who live in Torquay, are planning to use the trip to raise awareness and funds for the charity www.motivation.org.uk in a specially converted Land Rover ‘Azalai’ camper; motivation works with disabled people in the developing world. Richard, a former Torquay RUFC player and later vice-chairman of the club, was left partially paralysed by an accident on the rugby field in 1986 when he broke his neck. He has trained and practiced as an occupational therapist but has since given up his job in order to undertake this adventure. Richard gets about using sticks and a wheelchair. In Africa and other parts of the developing World, paraplegics can’t always get the aids Richard has had which have made life easier. The World Health Organisation advises that average life expectancy for a paraplegic after they become paralysed is just three more years. In the developed world, most paraplegics can expect a normal life span.

Endurance 12 hour insect repellent cream by Lifesystems in conjunction with 3M (Ultrathon), was initially developed for the military to provide long lasting protection in tropical environments. The time release technology enables DEET, which repels mosquitoes, midges and other biting insects, to evaporate at a slower rate, providing protection that lasts longer than standard repellents and with a lower concentration of DEET (34%). The Endurance Cream will protect you from biting insects for up to 12 hours.
The addition of the insect repellent cream compliments our existing Deet sprays and lotions.
