May 2nd, 2013

A good balance of work and play is important for anyone who wants to increase their quality of life. The Zillertal just offers this mixture – from the villages in the valley up to the mountains and the permanent glacier ice. Whether on a laid back family hiking tour along one of the 30 adventure paths, tackling the more challenging Berliner Höhenweg trail, or pushing for greater heights in Austria’s best bike region, the next hut offering wholesome, local dishes is never far away. It is proven that exercise at over 1,000m above sea level stimulates the cardiovascular system. At this altitude, the air has a slightly reduced oxygen level and is almost entirely free of pollen which does wonders for your body.

What Kit To Take On Treks

April 17th, 2013

On group treks you’ll probably have a porter or pack animal to carry most of your personal gear. Each day, you’ll only need to carry a daysack with what you’ll need until the evening. Obvious items are a water/windproof, water bottle and a warm layer. After those key items, it’s very much a matter of personal preference camera, snacks, notebook/pen, small first aid kit, spare socks, hat, gloves and so on. Of course, if you’re trekking independently, then you may hire a porter or find yourself carrying all your own gear. That’s when ‘lightweight’ really matters!

Tips For Staying Healthy Backpacking In Asia

April 3rd, 2013

For most of us, every holiday is an adventure and we want to make the most of every moment. Staying healthy and comfortable is a key part of any holiday, especially when backpacking on a budget in Asia. Explore The Eighth Continent – Where Lizards Scream And Lemurs Sing

March 21st, 2013

Madagascar – The Eighth Continent by Peter Tyson is the latest addition to Bradt’s growing library of adventure travel narratives. This natural and cultural history of Madagascar is an exploration of what makes the island so extraordinary. Madagascar is a land where lizards scream and monkey-like lemurs sing songs of inexpressible beauty. Known as the Great Red Island, it is a place where fosse and tenures, van gas and aye ayes thrive in a true ‘Lost World’ alongside bizarre plants like the octopus tree and the three-cornered palm. And where the ancestors of the Malagasy come alive in rollicking ceremonies known as ‘turning the bones.’ Peter Tyson is a science and travel writer with over 25 years’ experience writing about science, natural history, and conservation. This is the only book that combines cutting-edge science and conservation with adventure travel and historical narrative.
